No Spending Check-up: Hitting the Middle
We are in our ninth month of the No Spend Challenge, and I have to admit we have hit the middle. When running a marathon they talk about “hitting the wall” when you feel like you’ve used your last bit of energy. In our case, we’ve hit the middle where we are no longer excited by the challenge and the end is still far away. My drive to stop spending has mostly evaporated and I’m continuing the challenge out of commitment alone.
I am committed to finishing what I started. And, I’m kind of counting the days until it’s over. The odd thing is that I don’t need anything. I really have everything I need so there is nothing I am lacking. But there are a few items I really want, and the delay for getting them is getting harder. Although I have waited to buy items in the past, this time there is an intensity about the waiting because of the No Spend Challenge.
I feel the desire to spend more intensely. It’s like the first day of a diet when all you want to eat is whatever you’ve just purposed not to. Somehow the limitation makes us want it all the more. So this is where I find myself in the middle months of the No Spend Challenge. But the beauty in the accomplishment at the end will be in making it through the middle.
Please share your thoughts! What are you in the “middle” of where motivation is waning but commitment is carrying your through?
